After a lengthy pause since our last visit in 2023 (they now only open for dinner at the West Philly location), Jay, Ken, Karin and George made it to Vientiane Cafe, 4728 Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143 (215-726-1095), on Saturday, August 29, 2026. We had a reservations, which was a good thing since it quickly filled up. We had a wonderful dinner revisiting dishes that we love and missed. Everything was fresh and flavorful!
We shared the following:
2 orders of Duck Crispy Spring Rolls - filled with silver noodles, cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, deep-fried until golden, served with house sauce
Vegetarian Naam Salad - marinated rice with coconut flakes tossed with scallions, cilantro, lime leaves, and chili; topped with crushed peanuts served with lettuce to wrap. So unique - we didn't miss the meat!
Angel Shrimps - wrapped in wonton and fried crispy golden with sweet citrus chili garlic sauce
Shrimp Crepe (Banh Xeo) - Asian crepe stuffed with bean sprouts, onions, carrots, scallions and served with house sauce
Homemade Beef Jerky (so good we took an order home and almost devoured it!)
Lao Sausages (Sai Gawk) - 3 links stuffed with chopped pork, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves; served with cabbage salad and spicy roasted chili garlic sauce (jeow muk phet), sticky rice.
Sticky Tamarind Wings - tossed in sweet and tangy sauce along with chili, lemongrass and kaffir leaves
